This could have been a really interesting story about the history of chocolate and cacao, or an exploration of its role in Ecuador. But it mostly became a romance that felt like a soap opera. The writing was so cliche and at times way too predictable.
Graphic: Violence
Moderate: Sexual content

I adore this cover.
Truly, the cover is a large reason as to why I decided to pick this book up.
But the problem is that I was not in the mood for historical fiction, despite everything about this speaking to me on a personal level because it’s got a Spanish lead character, an Ecuadorian setting, murder, a mystery, an inheritance, family drama and a secret identity.
And even when I tried to make this a non-chron read and skipped to the end, the destination was not doing it for me.
So we’re moving on, but I hope other people who pick this up enjoy it because I think there’s audience out there for this who will shout out their pleasure for it and I think that cover deserves it.
