This is a story about a woman whose father left her and her mother when she was young to start a cocoa plantation in Ecuador. He has now passed and it is time to go collect her inheritance. And that’s when the story gets wild, there is murder, secret children, affairs, secret identities, and lies oh so many lies. This book was straight up like a Telenovela, it was twists and turns every step of the way and I loved it! I hate when I can predict a story, especially in a murder mystery, but I did not have a clue who did what until the very end. It was such an interesting nov and I highly recommend it. It had me gasping out loud , all the characters had a secret or two.
Graphic: Infidelity, Death of parent, Injury/Injury detail, Toxic relationship, Alcohol, and Death

Minor: Abortion and Miscarriage

I adore this cover.
Truly, the cover is a large reason as to why I decided to pick this book up.
But the problem is that I was not in the mood for historical fiction, despite everything about this speaking to me on a personal level because it’s got a Spanish lead character, an Ecuadorian setting, murder, a mystery, an inheritance, family drama and a secret identity.
And even when I tried to make this a non-chron read and skipped to the end, the destination was not doing it for me.
So we’re moving on, but I hope other people who pick this up enjoy it because I think there’s audience out there for this who will shout out their pleasure for it and I think that cover deserves it.
