- wish cultural/historical context was introduced sooner, felt like academic context was shoved into last quarter and came out of left field
- felt like it was spooky spook spooky ACADEMIC
- love girlhood
- I understand cultural context of filth associations sex/masturbation but wish it wasn’t true in this case; thought the other girls did a good job of counteracting social stigma
- twist on paranormal

It's hard to measure a book against it's cost, but £7.26 for Kindle novella that takes a few hours to read is a bit steep. That would be my main negative for this story. As for work itself, it was very well written and enjoyable though occasionally it fell short of the mark. I wish the novel explored more around the possession and the mythology surrounding Tlazolteōtl. There are some memorable scenes in this novel and it never outstays it's welcome. I would definitely read more by V Castro again.

I loved that this novella subverts the horror movie cliche of punishing sexual (air quote) ‘promiscuity’, the story’s fierce feminism, and the Chicana protagonists. Little bits of the prose were amazing. But after the initial possession, the story doesn’t take the premise of the ancient goddess of filth far enough, so it ends up being more a fine tale of righteous cosmic vengeance, and almost, but not quite weird enough to be super cool.

I wanted to like this more; I loved the concept the execution just didn't work for me.
