Cool title, cool cover, bad writing. Like a lesser, YA version of Come Closer by Sara Gran. (This isn't YA, but it sure reads like one.) Skip it.

I rounded up to 4 stars because I really love the plotline and characters and general premise. 5 friends hold some kind of séance after a high school graduation party. One of the friends, Fernanda, will be going away to college after summer so this night is like their last hurrah. At the séance Fernanda becomes possessed, inhabited(?), by some kinda spirit / ghost / demon (you find out later what it is). Then commences the mission to figure out how to rid Fernanda of this invading spirit which she wreaks havoc on the town.
Think The Exorcist, My Best Friend's Exorcism, The Craft vibes.
My main struggle was getting into the cadence of the writing. I am not sure if it was me or the writing but at times it was written like omniscient third person then suddenly from another character's perspective. The 2nd half was strongest.
If you like the possession stories, The Craft, and strong female friend groups then give it a gander!

I read this in one sitting.
It was so good. I didn’t really know what I was getting into and it’s filled with so much righteous female rage that I didn’t want to stop until I’d consumed every page.

A fascinating concept hampered by a lack of time spent with major supporting characters and an unwillingness to go harder on the title character's particular quirks. A pretty short read that really could have used more length to flesh out the compelling concepts contained within. I'm not sure if this book was originally written in English or Spanish, but either way a better editor was needed to help smooth out the stilted dialogue. Also, this isn't a horror story. It's a coming of age story with horror themes. (Audiobook)
I highly recommend this, especially if you enjoyed My Best Friend's Exorcism. I just wish this was longer!

Such a great book! It kept me hooked until the end.
This was a beautiful coming of age story with loads of girl power, and great characterization. V. took a possession story and turned it into something much more meaningful. Without giving any spoilers, this is a story of embracing your heritage and sexuality as a woman. There are some deliciously spooky scenes, but that is not the take away.
The real possession as described by V, is that of blind faith.
