In that his collection of short stories we are transported to Lagos, Nigeria. The short stories cover a range of topics from relationships, social and personal dilemmas, mental health and many more. It shows that no matter where you are in the world we can all face similar issues in life even if the way in which we deal with these problems is different.

The characters within each story are so well developed that I didn’t feel like I was reading a collection of short stories. We get to know enough about each character to allow us to have a full understanding of them. At times I sympathised with the characters then got frustrated with them and for me that shows great writing as the characters aren’t perfect. Uche doesn’t shy away from the harsh reality of what life can be like in Lagos. Her ability to write from both adults and children’s POVs is remarkable.

I cannot wait to see what comes next for this author.

The words that come to mind when I think about the storytelling in this collection are tender, immersive and empathetic.  The stories revolve around the barrage of emotions that people experience in the course of living and interacting with others.

Uche’s a brilliant writer and I liked the way and manner in which the themes were explored even if I often felt that she played it too safe.

3.5 wonderfully nostalgic and structurally sound. the stories are evocative and clever. I enjoyed most of them, but wanted a bit more, wanted it to tug at my understanding and ideas of the world a bit more (for the ideas in the story to stretch beyond the story)

not a short story fan but I tend to like nigerian short stories more and this was just the right length and held my interest.
