I just read a terrifying book and needed a short fluffy read, this was not that it was sad and superficial but it wasn’t horrible

I've likes some of J. Courtney Sullivan's works so when I saw this on Kindle Unlimited, I grabbed it. It's short (39 pages) but I still would like those 15 mintues or so of my life back. This is a story that is a riff on a couple that works to redo houses for families. The wife is into it, the husband isn't anymore, but they have to work as a pair. Their kids aren't thrilled either.

So the husband wants to end it.

The wife doesn't.

Yawn. Don't bother.

This is for all 4 in the collection.

Model Home by J. Courtney Sullivan is about a home improvement couple who need to make some improvements on their marriage. They are in the midst of filming a holiday special, which the husband says will be their last. But the wife is conniving and works on convincing him to stay with it.

If The Fates Allow by Rainbow Rowell takes place on Christmas 2020 and 2021 and addresses the differences in the two years with regards to Covid. In 2020, Reagan makes the effort to quarantine and then get together with her grandfather. In doing so, she meets Mason, who lives next door.

The Marriage Test by Suzanne Redfearn is about a couple who haven’t known each other long but are planning a Christmas wedding. First, they go through a family tradition of finding ingredients for a cake which they need to bake together. This seems like a good way to find out if a couple is really meant to be!

Oh. What. Fun. by Chandler Baker was a fun and humorous look at Claire, the matriarch of a family who plans the perfect Christmas gathering and how stressful it actually is for her.

These short stories were a total of 194 pages, so not long and each were fun reads in their own right.

Okay, I liked this short story quite a bit.

A good comment on:

The authenticity of what we see on TV and Online in comparison to reality;
The effect keeping up a TV persona has on families;
As well as an insight into the reality behind home renovation TV shows.

Do I wish there was some character development? yes
Does it make sense that there was none, also yes

Interesting story about a couple with a home renovation show. I actually thought of several shows (not that I watch them often) but with a twist, they don't like each other. I always knew that reality shows were staged and it was no different in this book. They also have tw0 daughters that apparently have a TikTok channel with a million followers. How do the parents not know this kind of thing?

I understood why Katie felt the way that she did considering how she grew up, but she let that overtake her life.

The ending was odd...just sort of left you hanging. I felt like there was more to be said.
