It’s a wholesome and charming middle grade fantasy. Very Harry Potter-esque. I like the magical school setting and there are so many likable side characters. I’m excited for the rest of the series!

Middle Grade Fantasy always brings a feeling of nostalgia when I read them and I really enjoyed this. It's been on my radar for years and since it was on kindle unlimited and it's been a while since I read a middle grade fantasy, I decided to pick it up.

It was so fun and easy to read, I absolutely loved the new found family trope and it always hits different when the characters are younger. I do really want to read the rest of the series because I'm curious about Sophie's growth as she manifests her powers more and just her journey with friends and family.

I love this book so so much. I read it in grade six and never stopped reading the series !!

For a middle grade, I found this story to be very entertaining. Kind of like Harry Potter, except 12-year-old girl finds out she’s an elf with telepathy. Sophie is an interesting and believable protagonist, and she goes through quite an ordeal by the end of the book. The things that threw me off:
-so many “cute” boys and mean girls… felt very one-dimensional
-Sophie was forced to leave her human family. I found this to be unnecessarily cruel, and didn’t trust Fitz and Alden for the rest of the book… what were they up to?
-Sophie kept breaking rules… because no one told them to her!! She was raised by humans, at least give her some elf lessons
This is the first in a series, and I’m intrigued enough to read more.
