Amazing book. Read it in 3 days. This will be one that I will be definitely re-reading once I get a copy for myself. Borrow Book

I want to love this but there was a ton of world-building in this book. I have book 2 ready to go but I didn't love this one. The story has such a mix of Harry Potter and Percy Jackson....

This was great fun! I'm all for a middle grade with a magical school where the MC is discovering a new world/their new powers for the first time! Such fun!
trigger warnings: loss of a child in a fire (in the past), forced separation from family, kidnapping and being drugged.

Before I read this book I looked at some reviews to get a general idea on the rating. The first one I saw was a long paragraph on how bad it was, I have to disagree. It may be overdone but this is a young adult book cantered around a kid. Of course she’s the “chosen one” it would be boring if Sophie wasn’t. Personally I think her character ha sailor depth and I’m excited to read the next book. Sophie really seems to be having some emotional conflicts throughout the book and so does Alden.

I loved it! The world was super interesting, I loved the characters, and there was just enough action. Definitely recommend!
