It was rather verbose and boring and thinking there would be so many more pages to finish it, just couldn't stomach it.

This was not what I was expecting but still thoroughly entertaining! Despite reading hundreds of mysteries, I don't know that I've read any broken up specifically into cases (within the same book), and I enjoyed it.

It was much darker than I expected, though. A tad gruesome in some places

A bit of light hearted regency romance and intrigue. Fun for what it is. Likeable main characters. Somewhat predictable development with the characters. Overall a nice way to spend an afternoon or two.

I feel like the author did a lot of research and felt the need to share every single piece of it in this book (looking at you, graphic mastectomy description)

CW:
Spoiler domestic abuse, sex trafficking, false imprisonment of queer people

I loved this regency adventure/mystery, Gus had sass and I was here for it. I've read my fair share of regency novels but this is one of the few that is contemporary, with characters who speak their mind etc, but still so well written it wouldn't be out of place with the classics. The narrative was split into three different 'cases' for the aforementioned Society of Ill Mannered Ladies to deal with , but the overall story with Gus & Evan runs throughout. The themes are quite heavy at times but well researched (sad to say that these are things that women had to deal with). It wrapped up in a way that I didn't think there would be more but I'm happy to see on Goodreads it alludes to a series. I hope this is true! I would devour anything else within this world!
