I really wanted to like this.  Because it's my first book with a LGBTQIA storyline. But I was so disappointed . It started of great. But then it felt rushed at the end . It ended so abruptly. I have so many questions.  What happened to Eartha's friendship with rose and mona , did it ever get fixed, what happened when eartha posted off that burner account , did she get caught by Dylan and E.V ? Was Eartha cancelled?? Honestly the questions could go on an on. What a let down

I fairly sped through it. It was very readable despite the somewhat predictable 'person goes social media viral and loses their identity' storyline.

It think it was strongest in the first half where it was more focused on the coming out process (specifically from a bisexual perspective), healing from a break up and on exploring female support networks.

I thought the directors' cuts were quite an interesting literary device.

All in all, the book made me want to reread No One Is Talking About This by Patricia Lockwood, which explores social media more interestingly, in my opinion. Yellowface by Kuang would also be a better option if you're interested by these themes.

DNF 66%. Will compose more thought later if I have the energy. Let me just say that all the themes, morals and life lessons were too heavy handed for my taste, and Eartha is obnoxious. I wanted to like her. It’s not often I find a book about a bisexual woman discovering her queerness “later in life” (she’s 25….sigh…) and I wanted to like it, and her. But yeah no, there are others things I could be doing with my time .

I dunno. I just kept waiting for the story to take off. I don’t feel like it ever really did. There was a conflict, but maybe I just didn’t care about it. The conflict was just so obvious. You mean a social media influencer projects an image that is impossible to live up to and when someone sees them not living up to it they record them and then social media turns against them? Shocker.

Also, I really hated that there was a redemptive arc with her romantic relationship but nothing for her friends or family. It felt rushed and incomplete.

I must admit I had high expectations of this book.. firstly I didn’t enjoy the style of writing, the director’s notes felt unnecessary and interrupted the story - I didn’t understand the point of it. Also, I felt the story focused too much on being an influencer and would have liked to know more about the other characters or it be developed in other areas. It’s 2 stars for me.

Fun story, badly written with a lot of typos. Read it very quickly, can’t help thinking this is just Flo’s way of saying sorry after her massive backlash from Slumflower? Maybe I’m a cynic. Very fun and relevant though, I think people should read it as a reflection of 21st century obsession with phones (I’m guilty as sin)….
