Such a stunning thriller; Slaughter has the innate ability to write extremely unlikeable peripheral characters that you love to hate. The dual story line between Emily and Andrea kept me o the edge of my seat the whole time. A dark novel with a great plot.

I loved this book by Karen Slaughter.  This one was a slow burn compared to her other one I just read, Pieces of You.  She seamlessly weaved the two different storylines (1980s & today).  I kept imagining this book as a episode of Cold Case and picturing how the characters looked in the 1980s versus now.

I will be seeking out other Karen Slaughter books and adding them to my "to-read" shelf.

Sure! Fine! A little silly, a little predictable, but it passed the time and kept me engaged.

Second book in the series, but you don’t need to read the first book to understand this one at all. The author left the ending where it could be possible for more to come (fingers crossed) but, this could also easily be an end to the Andrea Oliver story as well. I like the alternating of going from current day to the past. I was really trying to solve it it sooner than I did. But, the story kept me on my toes with enough “twist” to keep you guessing the solution.

Cons: Too many layers of stories running in parallel, but past and present. Also, too many hearts of darkness to chase.

Pros: I like that the sequel chose Andrea as the protagonist. Her mother was great in the first book. I love strong women, so I liked that the writer spread that out between the generations.
