So many parts of this book were heart shattering to me. What happens to Emily Vaughn is a complete tragedy at every step of the way, and it is riddled with everyone in her life failing her until it was too late. There are so many “if this had happened” moments that would had led to a different outcome for her. Besides that, I loved following more of Andrea’s journey after the events of the previous book, and I really hope that this isn’t the end of the series (SPOILER: given the fact that Clay/Nick called her in the very last chapter, I have a feeling this is not the last we hear from him or Andrea!!!). Mike is perfect and Bible was the funniest, most unique character I have ever read.

Expertly goes between two time lines each with different narrators. What could a 40 year old unsolved murder, a federal judges death threats, and a cult have in common? I didn't realize this was the second in a series and never felt lost or confused.
Graphic: Blood, Eating disorder, Murder, and Sexual assault
Moderate: Injury/Injury detail, Dementia, Child abuse, Drug use, and Toxic relationship
