Questions I have for myself:
- Why can't Ichigo hear the spirit's name and then can later hear Zangetsu?
- Why does Urahara keep his zanpakto in his cane?
- What exactly is in Rukia's Gigai?

Things I noted:
- Renji going from taunting Rukia over her sentence before she received the death penalty to arguing and kicking the cell that she shouldn't be sad is such a dramatic turn and really adds depth to their previous relationship as friends and rivals.
- I loved to see Isshin seriously supporting Ichigo without knowledge of what was next and am so happy he gave him Misaki's talisman. It really sinks in what Isshin said at Masaki's grave to Ichigo following the Grand Fisher incident that Ichigo isn't to blame for her death and that she loved him.
- Freaked out about how grotesque the research and development department is over Rukia's gigai, as it was repulsive. I know the research and development group is supposed to be off-putting, but it was not for me at all.
- Orihime and Tatsuki's relationship and foreshadowing really shine in this volume. The pair's shared moment over the red dragonflies, symbols of strength and courage, to Orihime's insight that it's Tatsuki's ever-searching for her that gives her the strength to move forward made me a joyous reader. I'm interested in what foreshadowing this leads to, as Tatsuki seems to promise to always look for her.
- Finally, I really enjoy where the manga has Ichigo and Orihime running side-by-side, I think it shows how in tune they are meant to be together.

Overall: a solid volume that sets the tone of anticipation and adventure for the soul society arc.
