A nice collection of short stories. I'd never read any of them before so they were a nice change of pace from full novels.
Total popcorn, but after the end of a long school year I needed some mental fluff and this fit the bill nicely. I'm now tempted to read a full novel and see how they are structured and paced. The short stories all had to inset several of the "Jack Reacher signatures", which got borderline repetitive when you read them quickly back-to-back. Spread out across a novel, they would probably be a little less in-your-face.
I have to admit that usually I am not a fan of short stories/novellas. When I saw the contents page for this book and noticed there were stories as short as 4 pages, I grimaced, thinking even if I could write something that long. And to be honest, as individual stories, the quality isn't quite as high as a normal Jack Reacher novel.
But, on the whole, I still really enjoyed this collection. You gain a real appreciation for who Jack Reacher is as a person, uncovering traits that perhaps weren't fully appreciated within previous books. There's a greater exploration of his moral compass - how he can smuggle a wanted criminal past a police roadblock to help him escape, but in a different episode he'll step in to break up a 'protection' racket even though he's only passing through the area, putting himself at risk to help others.
To be honest, I think if you were to skip this anthology then you wouldn't lost any understanding from the series (although to be fair you could possibly say that about any individual instalment). But if you can't get enough of Jack Reacher, then it's definitely worth the read. Still not sure it's convinced me about short stories in general though!

The cover says this is the complete collection of short stories featuring Jack Reacher. Some of them were stories I had read earlier, but most were new to me. Fans of Reacher will enjoy this collection.
"Likes and dislikes dwell in the realm of emotion. Are you accusing me of having feelings, sergeant?" Love it.
"The amp must have been turned up to eleven. The sound was incredibly loud." Spinal Tap reference? Nice.
Thanks for writing LC.

This is a collection of Jack Reacher short stories. You won’t be missing much if you don’t read this one.
A collection of short stories inevitably has some better and some worse elements. Overall I enjoyed reading this book, with some classic Reacher dialogues and fights, and laughing-out-loud situations.
Enjoyed this as it was short stories and involved Jack Reacher in different situations and went further into his past.
There are a couple of wickedly good stories in this collection, which covers Reacher's life from childhood up to the current day. It was good to see him as a kid, and I liked the one in the hospital.
Some stories I'd read in compilation books, others were new to me and filled in some holes between books. If you are a Reacher fan you should read this.
