A rather dark YA novel. Carys must constantly cover for her twin brother Andreus, whose disability would surely be viewed as a "curse" by the rest of the court and the people they rule. Meanwhile, Carys is struggling with an addiction to the pain medicine her mother started giving her to help her bear the punishments she frequently faces for her improper behavior.
After the deaths of their father and eldest brother, the two siblings are pitted against each other in a competition for the throne.

This book has me like…
And there is absolutely no way that I can write a spoiler free review. So stop here if you don’t want spoilers knowing I loved the book, the setting, the characters, the plot.
Okay, you ready? Spoilers ahead.
Bottom Line:
I seem to be a sucker for succession fantasy, and this one fires at all levels. Plenty of court intrigue, but without getting boring or slowed down by it. Any book that keeps you thinking long after you read it is a good book. This book was excellent.
If you need me I’ll be scouting out Discord and Twitter to see if anyone is talking about this book because I think I need support group.

I got this book sequel back in 2018 and regret not reading it.
A princess character like Carys who by no mean is strong enough to help others like her despicable, ungrateful brother Andreaus.
But in complete seriousness justice for Carys life getting taken away. Her twin brother is to put it light a traitor and cheater. I could see through his good boy qualities from the beginning. Which wasn't to difficult considering his relationship with Imogen.
It was the first red flag along with his conviction that he would be King. Right away without any push to encourage Carys until Imogen stepped in. Which I knew she was shady but not in the way I had anticipated. This girl, Seer of Eden was playing the long game. I'm glad it came to bite her in the end. Despite her getting to Dreus head.
I love Carys stiletto knifes she has so bad. Let alone the power she holds because she's weakend. I can't wait to see how she uses Garrett and everyone else in the Council to get to her brother in Eden Conquered.
So the gist of this review is that I live for good female characters who survive. Not just that but also use their advantages.
