This was a fast-paced book with twists and turns. I didn’t expect Willowshine to be under Ashfur’s control the whole time, and I like the ending where Bramblestar was finally reunited with his body. My favorite character was Bristlefrost, and I liked her loyalty and connection with Rootspring. This book was good, and I’m excited to read the final book in the series.

dark reflective sad

As with the previous one, this one wasn't as good as the first few, but it was still interesting. I just think there's some repetition that could have been cut.

Sometimes, Clan cats really do behave like fox-hearts. So much so, that young Shadowsight's kin conspire together to help him and Tawnypelt flee to the Tribe, where they hope that Stoneteller will accept him as a refugee. Even worse, Puddleshine and Mothwing decide that he is not a competent medicine cat and that he should no longer be taking care of any cats unless he does so under their direct supervision. Bad, bad.

Before Shadowsight and Tawnypelt can depart, a bevy of Clan leaders, deputies, and medicine cats burst into the ShadowClan camp and poof! Suddenly, there is a new quest: to the Moonpool! Whence, I suspect, they will collectively decide to leap in, next stop the Dark Forest. Shortly before they all set forth, Bristlefrost comments that Squirrelflight couldn't possibly be working with Ashfur, and she says further that she would bet her life on it. Foreshadowing? Well, that would put paid to my theory about a new code that permits cross-Clan mating, wouldn't it?

Then, when the RiverClan cats dive into the Moonpool, those excellent swimmers find bupkis, nada. Had Squirrelflight and Ashfur not transitioned through the Moonpool en route to elsewhere, their bodies should still have been floating in the Moonpool, surely?

Next, the medicine cats move on to Moonpool, take 2. Willowshine downs a pawful of poppy seeds and sets off to dream herself into the Dark Forest. Things do. not. go. well. At all.

The medicine cats regroup. The next plan was forestalled, first by Lionblaze's conniption fit and then by Graystripe's return from his 'wander.' He finds ThunderClan in chaos and uproar, and he accedes to their cumulative request that he assume the mantle of Clan leadership. Funny, right, after he was such a tentative leader when Firestar was off questing to find SkyClan? Meanwhile, in ShadowClan, Shadowsight dreams himself into the Dark Forest, after Mothwing accompanies him to the Moonpool, where things get desperate.
