It was what I needed, a cute funny romance with some smut scenes that were mostly good (there's some repetitions, and for a short book, this could've been better). I liked the couple, Avery and Emmet, the fake marriage plot wasn't forced, the falling in love was a bit rushed (I don't know about elections in Canada, but a mayor campaign in Brazil takes more time), but I liked the banter and their chemistry. The plot is focused 98% on the main couple, so there's a lot of tell, and not show, like the friendship between Emmett and Will. There's some plots that could've been explored deeper, like Emmett doing everything for his family and needing someone there for him, and Avery's relationship with her mother, but maybe the author didn't want to write an emotional romance, and it's ok, this was a good time, I'll read the others in the series.

This book has the standard set up. Girl hates boy, he reminds her of her crappy dad, boy has a cocky ego but does a lot of good and is just misunderstood by girl. Neither wants a relationship but they fake date to get something they want. They need a “release” and then fall in love. The end.

Emmett was super annoying in the beginning. This book definitely dragged on. And on. And on. It was a short book to and I still had trouble finishing it.

I would recommend it to a reader who is just starting out. I have read so many books that I’m jaded now and need it to be more surprising to like it.

Positives:
spice was good
picked up some in the middle
proper epilogue in the future
No third act breakup
