The first Chris Colfer book I got out of the library and didn't purchase. I read some, listened to other bits, and read the rest. His narration really boosted the entertainment quality of the book, but also after the start of the road trip, it gets better. I feel reflects it appropriately, the characters were still getting used to each other but once the ice is broken, you're in the car with them. The authors note was worth the read alone and I think was an excellent response to parents who like to "protect" their kids from books that deal with reality. Great quick read!
The ending was very strange and abrupt. Other than that, I enjoyed it
Oh my god. I am in LOVE with this book. I have never related to anything more and my heart is broken but so happy and I just cannot even find enough words to express how much I needed this book.

i have never read a book with such a ridiculous amount of italics in it. like it was actually making me frustrated because it was so nonsensical.
here’s the thing about this: i get that it’s supposed to be a heartfelt comedy coming of age story but my god the tone was terrible. the level of irony through this was horrendous and it read like a progressive 15 year old on wattpad with a semi dark sense of humour wrote it.
there were some genuinely touching moments in this book which is why i didn’t flat out give it 1 star or less, but it didn’t balance well with the rest of the book, nor the weird, ironic and cynical writing style.
in short, this was insufferable at best.

As a fangirl, I related to the friendships founded on fiction but so vital for life. The books had a cute premise and gracefully broached some tough subjects. I enjoyed the audiobook, but found it a little cheesy for my taste. At the end of the day, I'm glad I spent time in this world because we all need a cheesy friendship story with a happy ending.
