this is my review for the entire series, the theme itself was good, i really did enjoy the plot. while the characters were funny i just couldn't really connect to them. there were times were i didn’t really like them or their decisions, though i started connecting to them at the end. overall it was a nice read

A bit of an uneven ending to an uneven series, Aurora's End borrows a little too heavily from Kaufman and Kristoff's previous series, The Illuminae Files, including recycling a major plot point. And, I'm going to be honest here, the final act of the Aurora series hit all the wrong notes with me in a major way. Good intentions: bad execution.

SpoilerThe "love is the answer" message towards the end is a little (okay, a lot) heavy-handed in how it is hammered into us over and over and over again. And it's annoying and a little too convenient how all the couples left standing at the end are cishet, even when they feel completely forced together for the sake of having everyone pair off (I'm staring at you Tyler/Saedii).

The only non-straight couple ends up in a completely different timeline, and do not have a direct narrative for most of the final chunk of the novel, to the point of the Squad 312 half of the couple basically being dead in the main timeline. And apparently it is a crime against YA for any character to end up not paired off with someone by the end of the book. I guess it would have just been nice to see, in a book screaming to the rafters about the importance of love, and focusing so heavily on found family, that not everyone has to be romantically paired for there to still be a profound love felt.

Caersan's ending also feels completely discordant with the rest of his character, but fits at least in that context of the overly-heavy-handed "love is the most important thing ever" message the book pounds into its audience. Aurora's End takes a sharp turn towards reminding us that even the bad guys really aren't that bad, so long as their intentions are kinda sorta noble in the right light and at the right moment. But sometimes, after seeing too many bad things happen as the result of bad actions, you don't want everyone to end up growing and learning from their mistakes. Sometimes, the bad guys just need to stay bad, and redeeming both Caersan and the Ra'haam just doesn't sit right with me.

A pak už to začíná.

The conclusion to this trilogy left much to be desired. If you're looking for a fast pace, all action, no friendly banter, all battle all the time, then this book is for you. The light hearted humor from the first two books was almost entirely absent. The time jumping seemed to be a plot device to get out of previous plot mistakes and was somewhat confusing to follow. I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 is because it had a HEA at the end.

This was the first time I have dipped into the sci-fi genre and I will definitely be coming back.
This was an amazing trilogy!! For starters (I know it isn't really relevant but...) the covers are just stunning *chefs kiss*
But, on to the stuff inside the gorgeous covers. These books were blessed with a GREAT plot and some of my absolute favourite characters in the history of me reading books. This trilogy incorporates a beautiful example of the found family trope (which I adore), it genuinely taught me the importance of family. I actually cried quite a few times in the books which I wasn't really expecting, but I bonded with the characters so deeply. Scarlett: hot, sarcastic, brilliant with people, feisty and fearless she's great. Then Tyler: also extremely hot, with a scar running through one eyebrow, a born leader, loyal and a talented warrior. Cat: Really hot, with some FIRE tattoos, best pilot to pass through Aurora Academy, loyal to the end, and definitely does NOT have a thing for her squadron leader Tyler - oh and did I mention that she's responsible for the hot scar running through Ty's eyebrow? (She broke a chair over his head in kindergarten). Finnian: Sarcastic, always there to lighten the mood, feeling and compassionate, gentle, so kind beneath his spiky exterior, brilliant mind, values family above everything and just overall amazing. Kal: Hot, cheekbones could cut glass... same with his jaw, violet eyes, warrior (he's even hotter when he's fighting, loves deeply, a man of few words but when he does speak his words are so valued, has a gentle expression when he sleeps and his hard exterior slips away, mysterious. Aurora: Hot, is a few hundred years out of her time, the key to saving the galaxy, harbours an insane power, selfless, focused also loves deeply. Zila: Also, guess what, really hot. A literal genius, has a dark past, gradually warms up though, does not trust easily, but when she does love it's deep and passionate. I adore them all. I mean ADORE them.
A bunch of misfits and oddballs, bundled together on ship. Finding belonging. Finding family. It's so beautiful. Highly recommend.
P.S. Sorry this was so long, I reviewed the three books in one cause I'm lazy - sorry

The creators showed us that the third part is supposed to have a high stakes, high chance of death, but there were many moments (in the previous parts too) where they built up the atmosphere to kill a character, and when the time came, they chickened out and decided to save character X magically. Because of this, I didn't feel the fear that our beloved characters felt, because I knew that the authors would never kill anyone.

I liked the perspective of Finn, Scarlett and Zila. I liked the whole time loop issue and how they were just mentally exhausted at one point. I was glad to see that it was time for their chapter. It was completely different story when I noticed a chapter about Aurora or Kal. The problem was that they had no personality, they were just there. If they died, I wouldn't even miss them. Ba, I probably would have forgotten about them a chapter later.

I really hate how they decided to end the whole ra'haam problem. Someone who was supposed to take control of the entire galaxy changed his mind through the power of friendship and love, and decided to leave (oh, we don't know, maybe they'll change their minds and the whole problem will start all over again).

In conclusion, up to a certain point the book was good, I couldn't put it down, but halfway through something changed and I just wanted to get through it and finish it, so I could read something else. I won't be surprised if I decide to reread The Aurora Cycle in the future, but I will probably stop reading at tome 2.

I believe that Zila and Finn carried this book, so that's why we should praise them.
