Too sleepy to do a full review. What a chonker. A slow ride, but never boring. Loved the time period, the place, the interweaving of the horrors of revolution, dictatorship, coup, los desaparecidos, and the horrors of the occult. Not to mention the AIDS crisis making an impactful showing later in the book. There are a lot of angles to digest. One could look at the direct literary references. Or the theme of strength in trios. Or the prickliness of family. And on and on.

Such craft! The world building, the political and historical back drops, the stories that come back and resolve themselves. The horror, the love, the complex characters. This book was breathtaking.

Woof. I expected this to be pretty horror dense, but there wasn't anywhere near as much as I expected but when there was: my god was it graphic and horrifying! I think that people describing this as literary horror are bang on. Just be careful with TWs.
