I really, really, really wanted to like this book; I looked for it whenever I made a library trip and because it was always out, I resorted to buying it.

There were seeds of real potential in the story and in the beginning, but ultimately they never grew into a story I could get behind. The "Victorian" voice never felt authentic and I grew very tired of the author's love of unnecessary parentheses (I counted five instances over a page and a half).

This world and it's characters never made it off the page for me. A shame that a book about adventure and dragons and a headstrong woman breaking free of the restraints of her role in society was so dull.

MC is not a girls girl. Very few women so far that she's spoken highly of. A whole lot "not like other girls" in her. And really slow plot
