This is a fantastic translation put in straightforward language. My students loved it!

Really interesting! But hard going... So many names and mothers and fathers and sons and daughters and gods and names and more names and places. Hard to get your head around...
Better review to come!

This is quite a good translation. And the translators descriptions of each passage was most useful.

Carolyne Larrington's translation and explanatory notes are excellent. The quality of the source material varies but is an interesting read regardless.
The "Sayings of the High One" was particularly interesting: some are expected (e.g., reputation, bravery in battle), but others more nuanced and as relevant today as they were 1000+ years ago:
"[W]ith your friend never be
the first to tear fine friendship asunder;
sorrow eats the heart if you don't have someone
to whom to tell all your thoughts."

This is one of those books I'll have to reread again and really study. But I'm so thankful to have gotten to read this!
