Superb, thoroughly enjoyed this book. It turned out differently to what I expected but a just ending. I really like the character of Eli. One of my favourites of recent times. I feel sorry for Tug, what an unlucky bugger.

I hope the film adaptation does it justice.

Not for me, very slow and not much happened.

A witty, sharply written novel about the corruptive power of greed and the contradictions of humanity. deWitt's style is a fusion of Cormac McCarthy and Charles Portis, with a dash of punk sprinkled in. Lovers of Westerns and noir will find a lot worth reading here.

Entertaining but not great. Much of the book had small adventures, like Robin Hood or even Pilgrim's Progress, but the ending made me think of Where the Wild Things Are.

A funny and unusual read set in the time of the Gold Rush. Very interesting characters. I definitely laughed out loud at times, yet is was dark at times too.

Great take on a brotherly relationship in a 19th century Gold Rush America setting. The writing style was simple, to the point, and funny. My first Western, though I presume this book is more likely to be a parody on the Western genre.
