Very cool western. Made me feel like it was an updated, modernized version of a story of the old west (though I'm not an expert, not even very well read, in the genre). Great characters, funny, deep and yet straightforward. Really enjoyed it.

I loved this book, mainly for the narrator, Eli. I'm sure there will be many English courses devoted to the different archetypes in the book, but I just enjoyed the flow of the story.

One question at the end of the book asked what I found to be the funniest/ most hilarious part. I'm not sure I found it overly "hilarious" but maybe more quirky? I guess if you like a dark humour...

I was recently at a BnB Ranch (www.reesorranch.com) in Cypress Hills, SK, and learned to saddle and ride a horse. During the breakfast and dinner times, the owner read cowboy poetry to the guests, and consequently I read Eli's voice with the same slow lilt the ranch owner had. Therefore, this is the perfect book to read after you hang out with a true cowboy/ cow puncher (?) for the weekend.

Lovely and fantastic cover.

Interesting characters, great black humor, but overall this didn't do it for me. I don't think
I "get" westerns. Or, at least, enjoy them fully. Like how gangster movies don't interest me at all.

This is the second book this year I have read out loud to my mom, with voices and dramatic pauses and all that and it really quite fun! Though this book was a bit violent to fully recommend reading it with your mother, it was also very funny and engaging. We enjoyed it but she did wish for less killing and mention of whores and erections.

Nevertheless! A good time was had by all. Would recommend as like a vacation read kind of book.

Almost 5 stars - I loved the style, really unusual, and I never expected to find two killers so endearing. Funny and moving and really beautifully written, highly recommended.
