I enjoyed Adrift. It was a good vacation read, with lots of action and a decent pace. The concept was well thought-out and original. The writing could use a little polish, as there were some disconcerting passages where the point-of-view wavered between characters, but otherwise the prose was clean.
This is more of a 3.5 but I will round it.
Adrift was a heavily character-based story. This was one of the aspects that I really enjoyed about the story because I haven't read a book similar to this in a while. However, it did fall flat on some notes. One being at times it felt like it was following too much in the direction of a Space Film. By that I mean the phrases and actions the characters did were very similar to that of a typical "we're lost and need to get home" movie. Another aspect which could have also been my fault was that I went into this book thinking that it was going to have a psychological twinge to it. It did not. The author could've really used the situation the characters were in to create a magnificent psychological horror that would've been very different than other books. This does not take away from the book, but I still think it would've added a little uniqueness to it. With that being said, I did enjoy Adrift. There could have been things done to push it even further, but the story was a pleasant sci-fi read with an almost complete ending.

Title: Adrift
Author: Rob Boffard
Publication Date: June 2018
Genre: Sci-Fi
Score: 3/5
Adrift is a bit of an odd duck. It starts out seemingly as a YA novel, but goes surprisingly dark. A group of tourists to the wormhole Sigma become victims of a war long thought over. Characterization is decent, but the story founders as it goes on.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Little Brown Book Group for sending me a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and unbiased review
Wonderfully crafted characters and a captivating story make for a great read. The story was well thought out and gave an interesting take on what would happen in this scenario. I loved how claustrophobic the whole story was, making it more intense and a real page turner. The ending is also spot on and I couldn't have asked for a better resolution .
I was in love with Lorinda throughout the book, and even Hannah started to grow on me after a while. I went through a mix of emotions for each of the other characters throughout, ranging from anger to admiration. It is great that the author is able to create not only a great world but also memorable characters.
Perhaps the only issue for me was the pacing, which at times became sluggish even though we needed to know the information.
I really enjoyed this book and will be looking for more by this author.
