The twist felt really unearned.

this book was phenomenal! different from the other "lie spirals out of control" type of stories. can't wait for book two! (it's going to happen right?)

Laura Rivers isn't too happy with her parents' decision to relocate from sunny and mild California to New Jersey right before her senior year. But on the plus side, she's decided the move will be good for her since she can reinvent herself and start over. Now she can finally be someone instead of the quiet girl that everyone ignores. On her first day of school, she notices that everyone gives her scared looks and whispers when she walks by. She also happens to capture the attention of popular boy / soccer star Charlie. Charlie invites Laura to lunch with him and his friends and Laura meets the two other girls and guy that are part of Charlie's clique. It's clear to see that they rule the school, and they don't like Laura. Laura eventually finds out through another student that she looks like a former student named Sarah who committed suicide two years ago. On top of that, Charlie and his clique receive mysterious messages, videos, and pictures from a person named Sasha and CO. It's clear to know that Charlie and his friends know something about the night that Sarah died, and Sasha and CO will do what they can to make them tell.

I'm conflicted over his book. There were parts that I liked and others that I didn't like. For instance, there are two reveals. I guessed the first one, but the second one was a shock. The story was intriguing at the beginning, but once the drama erupted, things turned messy and the character's showed their true colors. There were three narrators to this story (Laura, Charlie, and Sasha) so the reader knows what is going on before the characters can catch on. From the beginning I didn't like Laura. She was too self-centered regardless of the good girl act she put on. Charlie and his friends were equally irritating since they went through spells of being immature and impulsive. I also didn't know that this is the first book in a series. The book ended with a cliffhanger and the reader doesn't know how things end up or what the character's will choose until the next book is published.

I received an ARC of Dead Ringer by NetGalley in exchange for a review.
