This book is really depressing. There really isn't anything happy until the end. Literally one chapter of them being happy. The rest is just a lot of hard-hitting topics. They were written well, but it took over the book. Depressing subjects and hard subjects worked for this book, but I wish it would have been offset with something happier. It did end with a HEA. Just getting there was hard. Though the book itself was written well, I didn't connect with the characters at all. It's not that I didn't care about them or what they suffered, I felt something was missing.

Victoria and Jude have a heartbreaking history between them but after four years apart they still love one another. Jude has spent the last four years moving farther and farther away from his families business and all the things that go with it. He puts a mask on and hides himself from everyone except for Victoria who can see all of him. But he cannot get out of his head feeling that there is more pain and hate between them then love.

Victoria finally goes home to Boston after walking away from her wedding. She is still working on getting over that fateful night four years ago. The pain that radiates through her after seeing Jude again is palpable and it brings tears to your eyes. The feelings in this book are so raw and real that you feel them with the characters. I loved these two characters together and the strength they bring one another. You really see how hard Jude is willing to work to get Victoria to trust him again and how hard he will work to protect her. It is not until the end that you really find out what happened four years ago and it just makes you love these characters that much more. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it.

Victoria and Jude met in college and fell in love, hard and fast, they were each others first loves. They had a tragedy happen that made Victoria flee Boston and everything she knew.

She finds herself back in Boston years later and back in close proximity to Jude. They both realize quick that their past still haunted them but they couldn’t deny their love for each other. Love outweighed the hate.

Victoria and Jude’s story was beautiful but heartbreaking. The pain and suffering that they went through, they truly deserved their HEA.

Missing something?

Ugh, this is painful to write.

First, I want to say that there were some very sensitive issues discussed in this book, so make sure you're good with those before you read.
I appreciated the raw emotions that were displayed on the page, they were emotionally impactful and will probably have some people needing tissues.

Secondly, I liked the way we got to see what happened in the past and how it was weaved into Jude and Victoria's present. Though I figured out early on in the story what the big emotional pain was about, it was beautifully told.

Finally, I already had my suspicions about what caused the incident that ultimately separated our main characters—and I was correct. That being said—it was, again—written well.

However, I felt like I didn't connect with this book—or the characters?—for some reason.
Maybe it was missing something?
Perhaps I was having an off day.

Whatever the reason, I know there will be plenty of people who will enjoy this book but it just missed the mark for me.

What a fantastic read! Jude and Victoria were so good together. Their story was beautiful yet tragic at the same time. It was angsty and spicy, hello bathroom scene! I was drawn in from the very beginning. There is so much passion between Jude and Victoria and the characters were written in such a way that you can’t help but feel every emotion you are reading. They were so well developed, together as a couple as well as individually. They both had to go on a journey of finding themselves and then finding their way back to one another. I loved how we were given glimpses into their past through Victoria’s journaling without taking away from the present day of the story. The ending with Jude and the book tropes, that was just the sweetest! We were given just enough of Lennon and Micah that now I’m left needing to know their stories!
