Shrill by Lindy West

Enjoy Lindy West's whip-smart writing, but found this book lumpy. There were some great chapters (the writing around rape culture was a standout), others were readable but meh, and others spent too much time recounting things I've already heard/seen in other formats (for example, the This American Life story about her troll). Can't help but feel there were some missed opportunities in this book.

Great book. She's an amazing writer who made me feel both enraged and enpowered. I can't wait to take on the world with no apologies.

I keep seeing Shrill pop up on my TV but haven't been able to bring myself to give it a shot. I think it's the title. I'm not a fan of shrillness, even when I can embody it at times.

Luckily, I am a fan of my library and their audiobook collection. And that's how I can to listen to this great memoir by Lindy West, someone I don't remember ever hearing of before. I'm glad to have learned about her and count myself as a fan now, even though there was no shrillness in her narration.

Oh my gosh, this was so good! I didn't know what to expect before listening to the audiobook. This is such a well written book. Her personality and truth shine through.

This book does contain strong language and content that may be NSFW - unless you have an office where no one can hear your audiobooks.
