Loved this Pan-African YA Fantasy. It has magic, good guys, bad guys, mystical creatures and the Shatani. Koffi and Ekon join forces to find the Shatani, but for different reasons. They have to go into the jungle where they come across many different creatures. It was fascinating as it’s all based on African myths. This is book one of a trilogy and it ends on a cliff hanger. I need to find out what happens to Koffi and Ekon. This was a very pleasant surprise.

Amazing world building, a few good twists, the part in the jungle was pretty fun. But they just needed to stop bickering and having unnecessary drama and get on with it tbh.

Fantastic debut novel from Ayana Gray. It had some fun plot twists, and the characters gelled together. I found some of the book a little slow, then it picked up.
It was a fun read but it didn't wow me, but that's just me as I know others loved it.

I really enjoyed the world building in this book and the spooky jungle – a very cool YA fantasy.
The characters and magical elements are interesting so far; looking forward to seeing how that develops and the rest of the series.
The family relationships are so well written, I got a little choked up at some moments. I found it a tiiiiiiny bit confusing following 3 POVs, but that could just be an audiobook flaw!
