This was such a fun read! The imagery and world building in this book absolutely captivated me, it was wild, vibrant and alluring. The characters were compelling. I really enjoyed the interactions and dynamic between Koffi, a headstrong and impulsive character and Ekon, who is more strategic and duty-bound with possible neurodivergent representation.

The pacing of the story was done well, there was only one thing that slowed this down a little for me. Due to the multiple POV’s, there would be moments when the two characters would be doing something separately that leads up to the same moment and this would be repeated in the different perspectives. This felt a little unnecessary at times almost as if reader couldn’t be trusted to put things together and fill in the context which broke the stride a bit, but the fast-moving plot made up for that.

The story centres around pan-African myths, it was captivating and something entirely new to me. This story may just be the gateway for expanding into a whole other genre of fantasy that I didn’t realise I was missing out on. I’m definitely looking forward to diving into the next book in this story.
