It's great to see June and Day again in their ever changing dystopian situation. (I'm writing this review a month or so after finishing, so it may be vague). I continue to love the world creation and details and the characters. The ending was so bittersweet <3

DEEP EXHALE
I finally finished this! HALLELUJAH! I think I liked [b:Champion|14290364|Champion (Legend, #3)|Marie Lu|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1382652310s/14290364.jpg|19931517] the best out of the rest. Some interesting events went down that, for once, wasn't borderline creepy. The ending was quite,,, a thing.
SpoilerI wasn't that surprised that Day lost his memory in that coma, but I'm glad he did. It's good he and June will have a fresh start (at a LEGAL age). The glasses in Antarctica also reminded me of [b:Warcross|41014903|Warcross (Warcross, #1)|Marie Lu|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1533058119s/41014903.jpg|49634052]. ;);)
Overall, I'd give this trilogy an average 3.5/5.

Updated Review 10/5/19: I didn't expect this to take me like 3 hours to read but here I am!!! Luckiky I packed Rebel and I cannot believe I'm finally continuing and finishing the series!!!!

***

I literally finished this five minutes ago, and I am literally STILL bursting into tears, so forgive me if this is here, there, everywhere. Thankfully, the novella is still waiting for me, or else I might find myself reading everything all over again.

Critically speaking, this is probably my least favorite in the series. I believe it's mostly due to personal reasons (i.e. the extremely slow progression towards signs of action, followed by a sudden burst, and then a lull again that continued as a pattern throughout the novel.) The fight for a peace treaty, a cure, and for the Republic was actually quite short, and felt more like a subplot of the entire series.

However, this is perhaps my only serious critical reason against the novel. It doesn't affect my love for this novel because this novel serves its true purpose well, and that purpose is a fierce character development in our two protagonists.

Day undergoes much of this physically, for the obvious reasons, but his mental breakdown just past the halfway point of the novel is beautiful and tragic. It serves a purpose too, of course - nothing that I can see did not serve any sort of purpose towards something or someone in the series.

Perhaps that is one large reason why I deeply admire Marie Lu's Legend trilogy. Nothing inside of it seems superfluous nor does it seem like it has only been halfway thought out. Marie Lu excels at making sure everything comes entirely full circle, that everything pieces together and forms a perfect conclusion.

But, I digress. I could write a dissertation on her flawless ability to connect if that's what purpose this review served. What I really want to congratulate her on is the characterization of June. Honestly, I was very impartial to June when the trilogy began. I always wanted more of Day's chapters, less of June's. I recognized her superior powers to the female heroes who are similar to her in the ever popular dystopian genre, and I apprieciated her for it. However, as the series progressed (especially so in Champion), I was made aware of how truly awesome she is. She's not just taking revenge anymore, she is quite literally the backbone behind Day as he takes his position as the face of the people.

June is logical where Day is passionate, June carefully analyzes while Day is quick to judge and decide. In my mind, I see a yin and yang symbol, and for obvious reasons, I believe you can see what I mean. They balance each other out so perfectly that, if not for that horrific event that scarred their relationship from the start, I truly believe they are the perfect match. Not just the perfect match in terms of relationships, but in terms of partners in crimes and friends and people. These are two characters who individually are as brilliant as the Sun and Moon, but together, they create a supernova. June and Day are one of my all-time favorite pairings, and it is wholly because they work so well together, fit like pieces in a puzzle.

And the ending of Champion... it felt true and right. I was deeply, horrendously devasted after that chapter before the ten years later conclusion, but it makes perfect sense. I like to imagine what Day and June are like now, in the time that's passed in their world, and I think that they're on their way to being far more than okay!

To end this, I just want to thank Marie Lu for this astounding, beautiful trilogy. For their relationship, for her clear skills in crafting new universes and fragmenting all forms of reason, and for creating something so pure that I'm deeply saddend that I can't rewind the clock and read this all again. I cannot wait to read her new series, and see what else she has in store for her readers!

I am so confused after reading this. There so many illogical happening and so many unanswered questions from the first two books, but I continued reading taught I will realize what is going on. This could have been one of the best book series ever if the only author thought about what is she writing. The end... I cried, but I realized that is one of the most illogical things in this series. I am so frustrated. I could enjoy this series 100 times more if characters were doing logical things that they are capable of but they did the stupidest. What is the story why did Government fake Days result which was perfect 1500? SO MUCH WASTED POTENTIAL.

I think the character growth was beautiful, something I could not yet grasp when reading Legend and Prodigy but now you really see how June and Day have changed in an almost natural manner
The ending made me tear up, but it also made me realize that I would love to read more romance by Marie Lu (my complaints about Prodigy were also mainly about it focusing too much on that), because I felt like the dystopian part was kind of anticlimactic (the state of the world/resolving of the war basically being covered with only a few sentences in the last few pages
I tried to find reviews talking about this but I only found people talking about the romance so ig that also proves my point
Other negatives were the amnesia trope and the convenience regarding Day’stumor, tho it did give us that beautiful epilogue
