*** Nabokov is a freakin genius. ***

Humbert Humbert has managed to seduce me into getting real close to him and his crimes. I feel like an accomplice.

Has he deliberately attempted to enchant us with his beautiful language? Yep, no doubt.

Would I read Lolita again? Yerp, I would and I will.

I avoided this book for a long time because of the disturbing and controversial content, but the book has popped up over and over on top 10 lists. I had to see what all of the fuss was about.

I didn't read much in my youth, so I haven't read a lot of classic literature. I have been doing my best to make up for this over the last 5 years or so, though.

That said, this is the most well written book I have ever read. It is simply beautiful language describing horrible actions by brilliantly devised narrator in a book within a book. The narrator's unreliability combined with the excellent writing and a little bit of reflection on the reader's part, provides a deep insight into the main character and his flaws.

Enough can't be said about the writing. It's glorious: "it [the ice machine] roared at me viciously while I removed the ice from its heart."

Now I'm off to go add all of Vladimir Nabokov's books to my reading list.

just a man (*rapist), standing in front of another man (*rapist), forcing him to read terrible poetry out loud at gunpoint.

anyway I finished it, it was at times engaging and hilarious and sickening and bleak. I’ll think about this book for a long time. also I couldn’t ever eat while reading it because it will make you physically ill.

This book is terrifying. The language, the nymphetology (dont get me started) going into excessive detail about kissing her toes and caressing her 🤢. But I must say I‘ve never read a book like this and I‘m glad it pushes me out of my comfort zone and some of the plot twists were actually shocking. I should reread this book when I‘m older because I needed a dictionary and google translate for this book. Also put me in a reading slump

Holy moly the writing in this book was phenomenal!
I can't put into words how much I love the way "Lolita" was written. There were so many beautiful lines that I sometimes had to read them twice in order to let them sink in.
And I did not expect this book to be so funny. I didn't know much about "Lolita" before getting into it except for the pedophelia part. Why did nobody tell me that this is a flat out comedy? I guess it's kind if my fault for not knowing this was satire but oh well.
To keep it short, the plot was wild but felt very stretched out sometimes. The beautiful writing kind of made up for it, tho.
I truly didn't expect to like this book as much as I did and I'm glad to have read it (although I'm not entirely sure I always got everything).
