The first time I read this book, I thought it was possibly my new favorite fantasy book, but when asked why, I struggled for an answer. It certainly isn't the story itself, the plot is somewhat meandering and episodic. (If you want a good plot, read some of Brandon Sanderson's books.) But on rereading this, I understand why now. It's not a story you just follow, but a story you feel. It's figurative language is like the sky filled with stars, painting the story with brilliant depth. Even though Kvothe is an arrogant, superhuman prodigy, he still has real, human problems and feelings, and you can emphasize with him like few other characters I know. That is why this book ranks at the top of my fantasy list. Its a story that gets to your heart, and through Kvothe, you can discover and feel both the mundane and magical of the mysterious world around him.

This is another amazing book. One of the least predictable books I've ever read. I would suggest it to anyone who likes fantasy/scifi and even to those who don't care for it. It is emotional, humorous, adventurous, fantastic, and a plethora of other good adjectives... Patrick Rothfuss must be some kind of genius...
Pro: interested universe, i like the university setting + the mysteries + it's high fantasy
Con: Denna and Kvothe are "over perfect", which makes them annoying and unauthentic
What i def did not like (TW sexual harassment) : there was one scene when Kvothe said how much he missed to play music and he compared it to a memory of him. Once saw a female drug addict dancing naked on the snow because a sailor said then he'll give her the drug. As he made fun of her she started to cry and said she'll do everything. The story gives you the feeling he raped her later on. When i read this i was so angry because WTF?? How can you compare drug addiction and rape and sexism to something like "i like to play lute".
