I belive this is the most diverse agatha christie book ever lol doesn't mean that it's not racist, but, well.

Set in a student hostel, I liked the characters, I liked the atmosphere, I liked the way poirot handled things, I liked that Ms. Lemon's sister Mrs. Hubbard was involved here, I liked Mrs. Hubbard, and I liked that the inspector's name is Inspector Sharpe (ignore this, i'm just currently still in love with bridgerton's theo sharpe). I also liked the plot, which was actually convoluted, but I think it was told and revealed perfectly. Some twists even made my jaw dropped (2 twists, to be exact).

I think Christie here is trying to counter the stereotypes of her stories, which i think makes the plot and the pacing of this book better:
1. Poirot consulted about one of his theories to the police. This is a rare occurence. Most of the time, what Poirot's thought process and theories are concealed from the readers and in the end he just said it. Any analysis and consultation were usually off the page. It can be annoying, bc i want to follow the investigation. That's the best part. But here, I was so surprised when he consulted 3 police (officers? inspectors?) and wasn't being his usual vain self.

2. One of the tricks to figure out Agatha Christie's killer is to see who has an insane family, because in Christie's universe it's usually hereditary (credit to Bookslikewhoa's youtube video!). But this book wanted to beat that allegation. It's as if Christie knew people noticed that pattern and then she decided to mess with our head lol
