really enjoyed this book, just not as much as the first one. The story took an interesting and really cool twist to the events of the first book and showed us what happens after the ending of the ending of something isn’t always great, and what the repercussions of it can be. Our main cast of characters are great and all the new ones added in really add well to the story, and seeing them interact with the newer versions of the OG team from the first book is fun, but I wish a few of them were more fleshed out. The plot of the book was amazing but about 2/3rds in a felt a little confused here and there which took away from the enjoyment of the book. I would have loved more interaction with the storm beasts, and again more time with Cas and Iz, who again I was more invested in than Dalca. Overall a great ending to a really interesting series

There was almost no pay out for this book so it was quite a disappointing read unfortunately. The conflict was never explained/shown properly so you just kinda had to assume there was a bad guy with an evil plot because that's how a story works.

The romance was ridiculous, I see no point to it? All the other characters fell flat too so it was unengaging.

Honestly, I'd recommend just reading the first book as a standalone.

this is the sequel to the darkening.

when vesper awakes from a three-year slumber, she’s not expecting her home to be under the control of another, more sinister force. everyone looks to her for help, but vesper soon realizes this task requires more than she’s confident she can give.

overall, this book was a satisfying sequel. i read book one a year and a half ago, but had an easy time slipping back into this world. i liked how this was packed with both action scenes and court politics.

i recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the first book and i’m looking forward to more books from sunya mara!
