I think I should accept at this point that I just don’t like these books very much… but they’re so short and very quick to read that I feel compelled to finish the series. This book though wasn’t as good as the others (and those others were just average as a whole).

This book features Eustace from the 3rd book and a new character, Jill. Eustace, who is now less of a prick, mentions this magical word called Narnia to Jill as they are outside their school. She of course doesn’t believe him until they end up in Narnia as they are running away from bullies. While there, they are tasked with the quest of finding Prince Rillian, King Caspian’s son who went missing 10 years ago.

The action is present although predictable and the stakes, once again, don’t rise to a level where I experience true fear for the characters. I know I may be expecting a lot from a children’s book but all the same, I think the book was just alright - 3 stars.

Not my favorite of the series, but still. Jeremy Northam does this spectacularly. The way he voiced Puddleglum, the accents for all the other characters, there was even one part where Jill gasped and the way Northam did it, I had to play it over and over. Talk about an expert! What a pleasure!

I read the Chronicles years and years ago, and I'd forgotten all about The Silver Chair. No surprise there, as much of it takes place over rough, cold terrain and underground where it's dark. It is not an overly pleasant voyage. But Eustace has grown into quite a decent character, even likable. Jill is wonderful even with all her flaws. And the marvelous language in this book! The whole conversation with an enchanted Prince Rilian over dinner was priceless. CS Lewis was a genius.

This book is OK...but MOVIE IS COMING! But why why, it is only 2016 that movie will come out! UGH
