I enjoyed this one. It helped that I was really in the mood for something that was quick to read and didn't ask much of me. The twists in this one are silly but not distractingly so, and the love scenes are both but thankfully go by quickly. I hope Connelly grows out of some of his favorite sex scene cliches soon. And with as few cases as Bosch has that actually go to court, I'm starting to side with the Internal Affairs people.

[b:Trunk Music|58962|Trunk Music (Harry Bosch, #5)|Michael Connelly|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1170527993s/58962.jpg|449499] is a good crime novel. The story flows nicely and the characters are interesting to read. It is exactly the novel you would expect in this genre.

I have to confess that, of all the books in this series I've read so far,
this one allowed my mind to wander more than the others, and I simply
couldn't get enthusiastic about it quite to the same degree I have the
others. That said, it was still well worth the read.

Detective Bosch gets a late call and goes to a murder scene. The cop who
greets him is a wise-acre patrolman who appears to want to make Harry's life
as miserable as possible by, among other things, corrupting a crime scene
with his own fingerprints and such.

This book moves you from the grime of Los Angeles to the grit of Las Vegas.
The dead guy, you see, is apparently involved in organized crime and sleazy
movie making. There's some money laundering going here, too, and the FBI
babe from the first book in this series is out of prison and working on
reattaching herself to Bosch.

I don't quite know why this book was weak for me. Series burn-out? Maybe,
which means I'm going to try one more in the series as a test. I don't
think it's series burn-out, since I'm looking forward to the next book with
much anticipation.

Harry Bosch is called to a scene of a Hollywood producer that has been shot and put in the trunk of his car. The hit looks like a professional hit - two shots to the back of the head & small caliber weapon. This leads Harry on a whirlwind investigation to figure out why the victim warranted a 'professional' hit and who might be responsible.

In typical Connelly fashion, this is a great mystery that has several twists and turns. At the center of it all is the pragmatic Harry Bosch. Love the series and highly recommend it.

**Just as a side note: Trunk Music is the basis for the season 2 Amazon Prime series of Bosch.

(A re-read).
Always good reading a Bosch story and this was no
exception. It also included a return of Eleanor Wish
(from "The Black Echo") with a surprise ending.
Recommended reading.

Harry's back from enforced "stress leave" and anxious to get assigned to a case. When he and his team find Tony Aliso's body in the trunk of his car, Harry fights to hold onto it instead of handing it over to the guys in the Organized Crime Investigation Division. What first appears to be mob "trunk music" turns out to be so much more.

As usual, Harry's solid investigative instincts makes the procedurals so interesting, especially when things get dicey. He's heading up a three-person team, introducing a new partner, Kizmin Rider, to join him and Jerry Edgar. With Pounds' death, the unit is now under the leadership of Grace Billets and we're finally treated to a better functioning detectives unit. The twists and turns were delicious, some I saw coming and others catching me, as usual, flat footed. The good news is that even Harry wasn't able to see some of this stuff coming either, which made the story that much more realistic. I'm still digesting one of the final surprises.

I've loved Dick Hill as the narrator of the series and this book marks his last performance. He's been Harry for me so I'm quite leery about the performances to come. At least his sign off was up to his usual excellent standards. Loved the story and the narration.
