So, I think I have done it!

I have cracked the reason as to why #coho’s books are so emotionally damaging and why she is considered to be one of the greatest writers ATM.

#nakedtruth I feel like the story plot was very stereotypical and main stream. I predicted what would happen the first time Ryle ‘accidentally’ did what I kind of had an inkling he would do. And I also predicted who she would end up in the ending and predicted how the ending would be (ALL PARTS OF IT) and I swear no one spoiled it for me!

Now let me get to the part where I think I cracked CoHo’s secret. The reason for her ability to inflict emotional damage is her WRITING!

Her delivery of such a mainstream and such a predictable plot in such a gut-wrenching way is the way she delivers the story. She makes us the character. Her writing has the ability to make everything fictional so real, making us fit into Lilly’s shoes.

CoHo is taking the world up by a storm because she has the true raw ability to do what exactly a good book is supposed to do- transport us into another world. And however messy that world may be, she manages to keep her hold on us and make sure that we make it to the end of the story.

It helps her to solidify the hold she has on us by making us invest in the supporting characters! She highlights them all no matter how small the part they play is. And the flawless advice she gives out through the whole book supports her case well too.

In conclusion, even though the plot wasn’t mind-blowing I would definitely recommend this book to someone who is looking for a book that draws likeliness to reality and from now on, I’m pretty sure if anyone comes to me for advice on life I’d definitely tell them to “Just Keep Swimming”

I hate to admit I loved this book. I understand the amount of hate the author is getting for her as a person and it’s completely valid. I had this book so I decided I should read it and understand why people don’t like her writing either. However, this book was hard to put down. I needed to know what came next. I felt so terrible for Lily and for Atlas. This book highlights very important and real themes that are hard to talk about but necessary. I think CoHo executed it perfectly.

5/5 ⭐️

Holy crap this was a fast read, I started it this morning and was so engrossed by the story I couldn’t stop. This story was extremely upsetting. Tw for domestic abuse and sexual assault. I think this is a story that a lot of women should read—especially the authors note. I will explain why but it unfortunately will contain spoilers.

*spoilers*

I think that the hardest part about reading this book was exactly what Colleen explained in her authors note: you fall so in love with Lily and Ryle that it hurts to think he would treat her like that. Even though the ending was extremely bittersweet to me, and I didn’t necessarily want Lily to end up with Atlas, the authors note was a good finale to it all. Lily needed someone good in her life and unfortunately that someone was not Ryle.

I like many others often did think “why did she never leave her husband if he was hurting her?” Or “why did he not leave his wife if she was hurting him?” When it came to domestic abuse. I always thought of it in a nonjudgmental light because I know it’s not that easy to leave someone, but it’s hard to think that you can love someone so much more than you hate them. Idk. It wasn’t until Lily was having her baby and told Ryle that she wanted a divorce that I realized I didn’t want her to leave him. Even though at times he was a piece of shit. If I’m just reading a book, I can’t imagine how hard it would be for someone in this actual situation.

Personally, I didn’t like the epilogue because I don’t think that Lily should’ve gone to Atlas. I don’t blame him for the dissolution of her marriage, but the fact that the two “end up together” almost proves for a reason for Ryle to have been jealous. Obviously it doesn’t excuse his actions in any way, but Lily loved Atlas enough still to want to spend the rest of her life with him. Atlas is great, but I wish Lily would’ve found someone new, even if Ryle did basically drive her into Atlas’ arms.

I may be wrong, but this is just an opinion!! Feel free to share yours.
