This is a fresh take on the trapped in an otome game, because the world (at least as far as the protagonist is concerned) is an otome game. She has limitations according to her character profile, suffer from sudden minigames, gets points and rewards and this affects how she interprets the world and its characters. Second, her background is not just a sidenote, but the pillar of everything she does and how she develops in this world. Both as a human and the previous life of the villainess. And third, as far as she is concerned, this world can go fuck itself and everyone in it, but she refuses to die, to give up. She survived one abusive family and got her freedom, she sure as hell is going to do it again.
Its honestly such a good story, although the manga can come in some part as overdramatic but this just make the atmosphere that this is supposed to be a game all the stronger. It also a doubt if this people are really alive or just A.I that are going through the motions. And I also love that while her actions is making her more accepted by the family (by winning heart points of the characters) and they are treating her with greater kidness, she has not forgiven nor forgotten and if she could leave and never, ever see any of them ever again (with probably an exception of the maid, but she is in thin fucking ice) she would be so happy.

I really loved this one. Can't wait for season 2.
I was so interested that I started reading the novel... and accidentally read a spoiler and now I am really contemplating whether this one deserves a 5-star rating. But I will wait for the webcomic.

Okay buckle up because this is a phenomenal plot hidden under layers of isekai, otome game clichés, bad translations (yes trust me, all of them), and whump.
--
Basic Premise- a girl with a bad past with her family finally leaves the house and gets her own apartment. While trying to fit in at school (college, high school isekai plots are getting overwhelmingly common) she gets introduced to an otome game. But upon finding a secret ending she realizes she has to beat the entire game in Hard Mode in order to unlock it without spending ~100 USD. Finding a bit of herself in the FL of Hard Mode she spends all night trying to avoid dying (a more and more frequent occurrence) and actually finish even a single route.
Having fallen asleep while playing what else could happen but to wake up as the FL of Hard Mode- the Villainess Penelope Eckhart.
--
Meet our LIs-
Callisto- Crown Prince, known as a 'barbarian' and considered to be blood thirsty but only with the Normal Mode FL to give him attention and love he will become sweet and gentle
Eckles (or Eclipse depending on translation)- A(n ex?) slave from the neighboring kingdom who now trains as a knight with the FL's family
Winter (Vinter? translations are inconsistent)- A mysterious magic-using marquis that brings the Normal Mode FL back to her home after being missing for about ten years (plus?). The easiest route to follow.
Reynard (Leonard?)- The second eldest brother of the Normal Mode FL, not a romance route but a family bonding route
Derrick- The elder brother of the Normal Mode FL, not a romance route but a family bonding route.
--
Now, I fully entirely enjoyed this book, it had plot twists and lots of whump (my weakness...) and a female main character that I all together enjoyed reading about. However, there are some SERIOUS translation issues to the point that chapters 120~200 were almost unintelligible and the MLs all had some weird variation to the spelling of their name at least once, so reading it in English may be hard to do.

Moderate: Child abuse
It's been a hot minute since I felt such aching hurt and pity for a character cause God dammit she is treated so terribly lmao
