4 stars. While there were some hackneyed post apocalyptic zombie genre tropes, the story and characters are strong. I’ve never been a fan of zombie romance but this one works. A gritty, tough, emotional, believable story.

I haven't read anything like this before and I really enjoyed it. The world building was super easy to follow and get into. The beginning was a little slow for me but I flew through the last half. I would have loved to have seen more development of Mara & Rory's friendship/relationship, especially before the "apocalypse".

A queer teen zombie romance! This was pretty good -- I liked that the story took place a few years after the initial end-of-the-world virus turning people into zombie chaos. We get some flashbacks to that time to explain how things have evolved for the characters, but the story is more about how society looks as it tries to get back to some semblancy of "normal". The POV switches between the two main teen girl characters -- I found it difficult to distinguish between them on multiple occasions. But I think teens will like this.
