I felt like the main character needed more depth. I was intrigued by this book and felt like there would be more to Laura by the end of the book. It was like she didn’t have her own voice ever. This book did get me thinking which is one thing I enjoy on a novel.

I’m going to be thinking about this book for a long time. Toward the beginning I thought it was going to be an allegory about the problems with moral absolutism/relativity, but it got a lot more complex! More than anything I liked that it has the reader think about narcissism and ego and how far some people will go when they decide someone is worth following.
i Wanted to like this so badly. the premise had me hooked, as did the first few pages. what can i say? i love books about obsession. but this one didn’t quite deliver.
first of all, i didn’t understand the fascination that both laura and the choir boys had with virginia. there wasn’t enough to her, not for me. something needs to inspire that amount of devotion and i found it lacking.
also, a lot of the characters felt very shallow and flat, especially laura’s insta-obsessed roommate. i understand that she’s Supposed to be shallow but even someone who spends all their time on the internet is capable of interiority and it felt like lazy characterization to me.
the end did throw me for a loop and i found it absolutely fascinating. but again, i needed virginia to have much more depth & severity to make it believable. why do i keep reading books with protagonists named laura? it’s getting annoying.
