I think the Stan Lee aspects of this book are what kept me reading. While the plot and characters work in relative tandem, the middle to end of the book just seemed to drag on. What was meant to be read as tense and action-packed was either so convoluted with changing POVs or random unnecessary additions to the plot that it took away from my enjoyment of the interesting parts. In the Afterword there is a description of how Stan and the other writers came to the character descriptions of each MC. It seems his hand in this really propelled most of the pieces that drew me in. The writing wasn’t necessarily bad, just not my style.
Much of the characters’ powers and cool trinkets were really cool and incorporated well into the story but for some reason the actual characters fell flat as I never really felt myself connecting with any particular character or really caring if they lived through the book. I was impressed with how well the ending was written, wrapping up all of the blather from the middle “conflict” into a great conclusion that mimics one in a comic book. I was satisfied to end there, but able to see how the world and its characters still have problems to face

Overall a decent inspirational point for others interested in unique ways to write superpowers and otherworldly beings, but not something I’d pick up again.

Kind of angsty, which I should have expected considering the main characters are "teens". It kept me entertained, but I have less patience with the YA aspects these days.

Not that impressive, interesting enough to want to finish it, but not good enough that I would recommend it.

“But the real conundrum is, Just because we have the ability to recreate ourselves, should we?”

A very classic superhero origin story with a love story twist, and it was a twist. It has a mostly main character POV and switches between the different characters. It keeps the story interesting and helps you put the pieces together. There are quite a few moving parts in true Stan Lee fashion, and the ending did not disappoint. This is a series, but you could read this as a stand-alone.

This is the first volume of what Stan Lee had hoped would be a series. It looks at our connections, and the lack of them, in the digital civilization we belong to. It plays with our desires to root out the injustices and hate that fill the internet. I would consider this a YA novel with teenage romance and the struggle to fit in. We have AI. a teenage hero, aliens, evil corporate, an old man who is more than he seems, and the trademark Stan Lee hero rising to the occasion when all seems lost. I felt like the book really picked up speed and intensity as it went on. By the end, I was hooked and didn't want to stop reading. I also enjoyed the interview with Stan Lee at the end of the book
