This fmc is a brainless twit. I just can’t spend any more time inside her head. I’m sure the mmc will fall for her inexplicably. It will be amazing and happily ever after. But. Yuck. No.

Unfortunately my first read for 2021 didn’t start the year off great.
You think going into this book that Chase is the hero but he’s not, and I almost put the book down because of my hatred of him. He was horrible. So much of this book was wasted on him when he was so insignificant. He’s an irredeemable ass.
Callie was an immature doormat. I didn’t like her at all, and that then ruined the rest of the book for me.
Unfortunately the hero she landed, Ash, was damn near perfect (and way too great for her). I loved him but I felt like we got next to none of what we deserved to see between him and Callie. He was great but too much of the book was spent on Chase and that was a large missed opportunity. This book would be one star, but I gave an additional star for Ash.
None of the supporting characters (outside of Kiki) are likeable. In fact, my dislike of them was almost stronger than my love for Ash. I can’t imagine reading Cam/Jill’s book or Chase/Alicia’s book because this book made me dislike all four of those immensely. And some of the plot points about them was super weird (Chase and Tiff? His protection of her after what she did? Insane!)
Overall I’d pass on this one and definitely on the series. As always YMMV.

Honestly, I've never read a romance book like this one. - Ash. *swoon* Once I met him, I fell in love with this book, head over heels. You also can't go wrong with reading a firefighter romance book!
I was surprised at how much suspense was in this book. Not that I wouldn't have picked it up if I knew there was some, but nevertheless, suspense. You have a pretty good at the idea of who's committing what, but of course, we just need the confirmation.
Sooo, if you enjoy having your heart broken in an angsty sort of way, you might just very well enjoy this one. Secondly, firefighters!

First, you fall in love with one character, but then he turns into a huge prick. (Pun intended.) Then we meet the next guyI was surprised at how much suspense was in this book. This is a fun, steamy, fire service, alpha protector romance. Callie is a self sufficient lead with great career potential. She has a string of bad relationship and is attracted to wrong type of hero. As a result she writes off all firemen for being arrogant, cocky and unable to sustain a committed relationship.
I have to confess I spent the first third of this book mightily confused. I just could not see how Chase was a convincing romantic lead. He was selfish and arrogant and not overly nice to Callie. Oh how relieved I was that this wasn't the actual thrust of the romance. Once i realised he was just a catalyst for the main event I was much more on board with the story. What you are left with is a gorgeous story of friendship, chosen family, forgiveness and love grown from a deep connection and kindness. Callie and Chase have a very physical connection. But what she builds with Ash is oh so much more.
I loved this story and its depths and its heartbreak. It deals with the complications of family and of losing ones we love. It deals with disappointment and betrayal. But Callie is a stronger and more secure person as a result. And her deep love and connection with Ash is a gorgeous story to follow and you fall in love alongside her.
I thoroughly recommend the bonus chapter linked at the end told from Ash's point of view. It is utterly heartbreaking. But i loved hearing his perspective in his narrative voice.

Thoughts: Not a huge fan of the blurb, man was that misleading. Chase was a major douche. I almost, A L M O S T want to read the rest of this series but these characters were too much of a hot mess for me. Ash and Kiki were the only redeeming characters in this book for me.
4.5 stars
This book is fire. It takes a hold of you from the beginning. I mean I did not see it taking the turns that it did but OMG they just fit in with the bigger picture. An amazing story and an excellent read.

oh
I can’t stand their cocky as hell, arrogant, self-absorbed, oh-look-at-me I-can climb-ladders-and-play-with-my-hose goddamn attitudes.
But oh how the tables turn

Great read
I loved this book. I was not expecting some of the turns that it took and the way the story stars Ted to change halfway through. I’m hoping there will be more books in this series soon!
