A fantastic start to the series. I seriously fell in love with Jaquetta, every step of her journey. The people she meets, her husband and her children. She handles every problem with a smart head and still managed to smooth the waters.
This was good, I enjoyed this! I thought it was well paced but omg the life of an English noble sounds fucking stressful. It was interesting watching Jacquetta's life from when she was a teenager through to a woman in her 40s (or 50s?). Watching her grow and develop into the political figure she was during the war. She was a good MC, well developed. I was invested in her relationships and overall story.

Didn't think I would enjoy this as much as I did omg i loved it! I don't normally get on with period fiction but Gregory's writing was so easy to read and I just fell in love with jacquetta! Cannot wait to read more of the series!
Wow this lady is extraordinary. I know some scenes are fictional but wow Jaquetta and her family went through so much. Her husband is quite lucky how many times he’s survived. And she had sooo many kids. But also, I find it so cute that she was able to marry for love in that time period and have things for the most part turn out ok for her and her family. She had a long marriage to her husband. I’m curious to know what else happens to her and her family. I wish historians reported more on women in history because Jaquetta was so influential!

Philippa Gregory does a fantastic job of planting you in a character's shoes- what thoughts they might have had or why historical decisions may have been made. Jacquetta is a character that history does not know much about. Kudos to the author for delving into and developing a life that feels plausible and real.
