I don't particularly know what the fuck that was, but I know I did not like it.
Definitely not what I expected, especially the ending.
I can't express properly how unpleasant listening to this book actually was. Aside from the ridiculous idea that the main character feel instantly in love with the woman he was supposed to kill and the fact that he killed someone else instead and the client didn't say anything except "you killed my son?", this is a shitty reading of the book. I ended up DNFing after about ⅓ of the book. First, the main character is a man. The book is written in first person. They got a woman to narrate while doing a fake man voice. Not only is it stupid, she sounds bored. She has a Brooklyn accent that is laced with southern inflections and pronunciation. However, the translation is done by a person from the UK and the phrases and idioms are British. It was so hard to concentrate on the story because of the terrible narration. Once I forced myself to focus only on the plot, I realized it was slow and boring, and I didn't like any of the characters, which is quite a feat in an unabridged 3 hour reading.
Interesting twist for Nesbø...this hero is the villain. We follow an assassin through his murky path by hearing his thoughts...and they are compelling, in a strange way. We hear the back story and the current story, both from the assassin's perspective and other stakeholders' views. Nesbø has done a great job of connecting love and death.

Quick engaging read -- cold-blooded assassin with a heart of gold in certain situations. Filled that last prompt (Nordic noir) on my popsugar challenge list.
Too short! More like a novella which was disappointing, but a good story
Very short but action packed. For me it was over before it really started though, yet I still enjoyed it.
