Keighley Bradford’s debut novel does not disappoint. Her story is so alive, full of wit, emotion and a good helping of drama. While the relationships between the characters are deliciously messy, I found them all so easy to love. Bea and Alex are beautifully constructed characters with a quite a complex relationship, they make some tough decisions throughout the book, but always maintain their charm. Once We Were is also very well paced, there wasn’t a wasted moment when it come to plot or character development. Can’t recommend this little book enough!

Witty, descriptive, romantic

This book is a contemporary romance novel that follows the playful but tempestuous relationship between Bea and Alex. Keighley’s descriptive writing and strong characters engage and immerse the reader in the dramatic but loveable world of Bea and Alex. The story is full of so many well-researched details, which I really enjoyed and found that they helped to create such a well-rounded narrative. If you are a fan of ‘Confess’ by Colleen Hoover or just love a witty contemporary romance, then this is a must-read for you!
