I love everything Kate Beaton does, so naturally I love this. It's a collection of her webcomics which are usually about history and classic history, with the occasional break for things like Nancy Drew and Batman and butts. Drawn and Quarterly has done a splendid job with this release. I hope her next collection has her strips about the 2010 Olympics, those were brilliant.

I enjoy silly jokes, and this book has silly jokes a-plenty! I didn't get some references because my knowledge of history and famous literature is limited... so looking up the occasional historical figure or book character helped -- regardless, the punchlines hit and I liked most of the comics.

An exchange that tickled me:
Nicolaus Copernicus (I think): Kepler, the Sun orbits the Earth.
Johannes Kepler: What if the Earth orbits the Sun?
Copernicus: What if your wife orbits my dick?

Ah, classic.

Funny and smart come together in these comics like chocolate and peanut butter. It's also worth noting that the book's print quality is pretty high, nice heavyweight paper and good binding.

Kate Beaton is a paragon among artists, and her snarky comedy is a balm to my soul.

Funniest book ever. Well, along with the second book Step Aside, Pops.
