This is an insightful and provocative memoir depicting the truths of working in an unsupportive and out dated NHS and suppressing who you really are. The experiences outlined in this book are difficult to read and are a true eye opener to what goes on in the inner workings of our medical system. The true cheerleaders are rare and medical students and staff are left feeling overwhelmed. Not only did Kay have this to contend with, he also had the breakdown of his marriage, understanding his homosexuality and parental pressure.
All in all, an emotive book that took me by surprise. This is very different from the authors previous comedic accounts so be aware of this before diving in. I was not expecting to read something so heavy which is perhaps why only the 3 star rating. This is subject to change upon reflection

Really brilliant book by Adam Kay.
Extremely informative about life as a doctor in NHS.
Very honest book. Funny at times and incredibly sad/ disturbing at times. Great insight into the highs and lows of the life of an extremely likeable author.

Hilarious and heartbreaking. His ED and SA stories were relatable but graphic and horrible.
