This book had the potential to be great. I am so sad! :(
Poppy and Jack's Story had the potential to be one of my favorites; however, the plot was undeveloped. Every time the story seemed to find it's footing - the plot holes emerged.
The plot holes were everywhere to the point that I thought my book was missing chapters. It felt as though the book could not pick a genre, so it bounced around when convenient to the story, which made the book a tough read.
MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD
If the plot had been developed more, the plot twists at the end of the book would have HIT! However, they were just incredibly confusing from the lack of plot development and detail. If this book had been a 100-200 pages more for that missing development, I think this book could have easily been a 4-5 star read.
I may give book #2 a chance just to see if that missing development comes in, but I am unsure at the moment.

I DNF’d this so fast it might be a record. It’s an absolutely not from me.
FMC gets SA’d in the first chapter, is sitting there covered in her assailants blood and immediately wants to kiss the MMC to make her feel better. Just no.
Play Dirty by Lora Leigh is a good fit for those seeking a passionate and protective romance featuring childhood friends reuniting under dangerous circumstances, with a strong emphasis on trust and possessiveness.

So much to unpack here. Damaged, yet devoted male returns to his hometown to save the world. Naive somewhat sheltered woman whose idolized the male welcome him with open arms... and more.
Of course this is an oversimplification of a complicated story of a former Navy Seal dealing with dangerous elements, somewhar violently at times, coming home to ultimately claim the one he left behind. So at the core, this could be a second chance romance trope thrown into all the intrigue and mystery.

DNF at 30% and I NEVER DNF. I feel dumber for reading this far. Plot is all over the place. Doesn’t connect well. Omg it was probably one of the worst books I’ve ever attempted to read.
