I think it’s a little sad that we only get to see Percy’s, Annabeth’s, Piper’s and Leo’s point of view in this book. I would have liked to have a little more insight into Hazel or Frank. However, Percy’s pov was delightful as always, and having Annabeth’s pov after 7 books was especially great. However, Piper’s pov was a little… dry. All Piper talks about is how great and perfect and flawless Jason is and how she thinks he’s 100 times better than any other boy she’s ever met AND how great Annabeth is and how she’s never had a better and smarter and greater friend than her LOL I think Piper’s type is pretty clear (blondes).

The Mark of Athena is the third instalment of Rick Riordan’s Heroes of Olympus series, and follows seven demigods on their quest to save Nico de Angelo and defeat Gaia and the giants; Percy, Annabeth, Leo, Jason, Piper, Hazel, and Frank, as well as the satyr, Coach Hedge. To do this, they have to travel from San Francisco to Rome, avoid Roman demigods, fight gods and monsters from Greek and Roman legends, send Annabeth on her own quest to follow the mark of Athena, and team up with a god to fight two giants. Fortunately, they succeed, until… My favourite character was Percy and my least favourite character was Gaia. I recommend this book because it’s my favourite of the Heroes of Olympus series so far, mainly because Percy and Annabeth are finally back together. The stakes are also a lot higher in this book. ‘Percy threw his arms around her. They kissed, and for a moment nothing else mattered. An asteroid could have hit the planet and wiped out all life, and Annabeth wouldn’t have cared.’

Truthfully, I couldn't really decide until the end how I felt about this book. I felt as though everything was taking a long time to build up. There was nothing wrong with the pacing of the book technically... I just felt bored during some parts.

The second the seven arrive in Rome though... my opinion took a 180 and saved this book from the doom of three stars. Annabeth's narration as soon as she begins her solo quest is really nice and made me love her perspective.

I enjoyed seeing how some of them felt when with the whole group. Piper was probably my favorite when it came to feeling different compared to others. I really came to love her in this book.

Excited for what the fourth book will bring!
